I got my start to endurance athletics as a runner in high school, where I collected 10 state champion medals and qualified for both the Footlocker Cross Country National Championships and the Adidas Dream Mile. I still hold the one-mile high school record for the state of Florida, running a 4:42.79 in 2012. I continued to run in college at Vanderbilt University, where I raced on the nationals cross country team twice and made the SEC All-Freshman team for the 1,500-meter run. I graduated from Vanderbilt in 2016 with a BA in biology, and continued to the Medill School of Journalism, where I graduated in 2017 with an MS in Health, Environment, and Science Journalism.
I began cycling with my LBS group ride in the summer of 2016 and quickly jumped into cyclocross with a club team that fall. I finished the season with a 2nd place at collegiate cyclocross nationals for Northwestern. By April of 2017 I had collected my first UCI stage win on the road at the Joe Martin Stage Race. Other notable results include 3 podiums at collegiate road nationals and a 6th place GC finish at the North Star Grand Prix, finishing as the top amateur. I have continued to race cyclocross, landing on three UCI podiums in the fall of 2017 and finishing 8th at my first elite cyclocross nationals in Reno. For 2018 I will compete in my first official professional season on the road for Hagens Berman | Supermint, and will continue racing UCI cyclocross in the fall of 2018 for The Pony Shop with the goal of winning some races.
I currently live and train in Asheville, NC. I work as the Communications Director for the 501(c)(3) nonprofit bicycle registry, Bike Index. I am also a science writer and freelance journalist for the American Society of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology and other publications.
