The legendary bike builder Ben Serotta first opened a small retail and repair shop as an off-school activity in the late 1960’s. Shorty afterward he traveled to London, England and apprenticed in the craft of building steel bicycle frames. Serotta’s bikes were instrumental in the United States’ rise as a modern cycling power. Contracted by powerhouse teams 7- Eleven (1984-1988) and Coors Light (1991-1994), along with numerous smaller national and international programs, Serotta became the dominant US builder of high-performance racing bicycles. By 1990 his designs had been ridden to National, European and World Championship titles in road, time-trial, track, mountain and triathlon events. Through the Serotta Design Studio, this legend of the industry continues to create bicycles that are exceptional in both performance and beauty, with a lifecycle that supports a long time love affair between the rider and the machine.
Red Truck has partnered with the Serotta Design Studio and will offer the Duetti S1 from now until December 15, 2018. Five percent of the sales on these carefully crafted machines will be sent to the Homestretch Foundation, a Tucson based non-profit that provides temporary training facilities and resources to professional female cyclists.
Kathryn Bertine, a former professional cyclist, accomplished author, and vocal activist, opened the doors of the Homestretch Foundation to the first group of athletes in early 2017. She described the experience of the past two years as, “an incredible period where individuals and fellow athletes alike have stepped up to support a growing number of rising talent.” Bertine went on to add, “this support from Serotta Design Studio and Red Truck will help our 2019 residents tremendously and we so appreciate your support.”
The “Stretchie” alumni include well-known favorites such as Lauren Hall alongside rising talents like Ellen Noble. The focus of the athletes ranges from road cycling and track racing to mountain biking and even the triathlon. Bertine will select the winter session (December through February) residents soon but is still taking applications for the those interested in the spring of 2019.
